#2: Zara Lachlan: 21-Year-Old’s Epic Solo Ocean Row – 3 World Records & Inspiring Fearlessness
Podcast Details
We are excited to launch our charity podcast, Inspiring Women Leaders, the sister podcast to Inspiring Leadership with Jonathan Bowman-Perks MBE. Today’s special guest is 21-year-old Zara Lachlan, who will be rowing solo and unsupported this October from Portugal across 3,600 miles to French Guiana. This mainland-to-mainland attempt will allow Zara to set three world records: she will be the first female to row this crossing solo and unsupported, the youngest person to complete this crossing in any boat, and the youngest female to row from any mainland to mainland across the Atlantic Ocean in any boat (others have crossed from Africa, which is about 600 miles shorter).
Zara’s challenge will involve rowing for 15 hours a day, navigating through orca- and shark-infested waters, and facing waves up to 30 feet high. Remarkably, this will be Zara’s first ocean crossing, and the first time she rows on an ocean will be when she departs from Portugal. None of this would be possible without the help and support of her sponsors, including Team Forces, Collins Aerospace, Telent, Civica, and Spectra Group. Zara’s row will also raise funds for her two chosen charities: Women in Sport and Team Forces.
